No Little Big Planet Image Importing

Little Big Planet Small

What started out like an interesting update to Little Big Planet turned out to be flatly denied by Media Molecule and Sony.  In a Joystiq article it was originally stated that an update would bring about the opportunity to import images into your massive user created levels (for an even more realistic Gradius).  For now you are still stuck using the Playstation Eye.

While the idea would have been very cool and had propelled the game into even further into its “awesome” status, I think a little thing called copyright and the control of copyrighted material will probably hinder this idea much the same way as the music creator in Guitar Hero World Tour.  That and how many levels made entirely of boobs and penises would have gotten to play!

Boku, Microsoft’s Little Big Planet

Boku Screen

Microsoft has recently unveiled its new project, Boku, at a conference in Los Angeles.  Boku is an icon driven to allowing Xbox 360 and PC users the ability to create games with a controller.  This is apparently built to create a bridge between user creation (ala Little Big Planet) and the more complex ideas behind XNA.  It is being reported to be released in 2009 (with Microsoft rolling out the user created XNA stuff with the newer dashboard updates).  The program manager Matthew MacLaurin says that he wanted the kids of today to be able to have as much fun as he did programming on his Commodore PET and away from the passive-TV watching.

Little Big Planet Unplugged

What started out as very promising after the recall/delay has now become sad again.  It has been confirmed by Media Molecule that the Little Big Planet servers have been taken offline to be repaired.  It appears to be a case of millions finally trying to get on coupled with what Media Molecule says is “to avoid ‘glitching issues’ some people were seeing that was affecting offline play.”  They say that they will be back on as soon as they can get the bugs sorted out.  But for those eight hours they were on I bet people were having fun (attempting to log on)!

We will keep you updated as to when they return.

Sequels for Little Big Planet and Saints Row 2 Already Underway

Saints Row 2 Small

The guys over at 1up have compiled a couple of reports that state that Little Big Planet 2 and Saints Row 3 are already being developed.  I find this crazy that one game has been out a couple of weeks at most and due to delays, the other is only had its online servers turned on last night!  I guess the developers are confident enough that the two games will make them enough money to do sequels (or threequels).  Hopefully they are right.  Hit the link to check out the reports.

Do you think we need to see another Saints Row or Little Big Planet already?

Little Big Planet Released?

Little Big Planet Released Small

The folks over at Joystiq have been receiving reports that Little Big Planet is showing up at various GameStops.  The release date was originally set for October 27th, so we are really not too far away from that anyway if you were planning on getting it somewhere else.  This is exciting news for the hardcore fans!

Let us know if you got it at a GameStop or anywhere else today!

Little Big Planet Patched

A couple of patches came out today that remedied the musical problems that caused Little Big Planet’s delay.  For the few that got their hands on it early, the game now patches to 1.02 and turns the “offensive” track into an instrumental work.  Maybe now Sony and everybody can put this behind them, and we do not have to hear about it anymore.

Big Delay for Little Big Planet

Well, it seems that right before the game launched that letters and reports have flown around about references to the Qur’an references in the soundtrack.  Sony has pulled the game off the shelves to get the situation resolved but what was once a European delay has turned worldwide.  Some reports put the delay at three weeks, but that is not an official date.

It also seems that a patch was ready for a day one release (like Fable 2’s co-op, except that one is more conspicuous), but Sony wanted to do the right thing for people unfortunate enough to to have the online services.  The patch will still release the same day as the game.  Plus one for Sony doing the right thing, but I am just curious as to the nature of the reference that warranted all this.

Some people got their hands on the first copy before the recall.  Maybe there’s some extra money on eBay for the pre-recall version even though there’s a patch.
