How To Upgrade Your PS3 Hard Drive

Sony has quietly mentioned that they are looking to release a digital TV tuner for the PS3 to give it DVR functionality, which is great, but the stock hard drive is way too small for video recording. Luckily swapping hard drives is a pretty straight forward procedure.

If you’re familiar with PC hardware you’ll likely be able to figure it out yourself. If you aren’t comfortable prying open such as expensive piece of equipment, Gamepro has put together a guide to upgrading the PS3 hard drive, with plenty of pictures detailing the process. The instructions for upgrading your PS3 hardrive are straight forward, so give it a shot.

Grand Theft Auto IV Delayed!

Take Two just announced Grand Theft Auto IV will be delayed from its originally scheduled October release date until the second fiscal quarter of 2008, sometime between February and April of 2008. Though they cited no direct cause for the delay, Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick said “certain elements of development proved to be more time-intensive than expected.” In addition, due to the outstanding ratings problems, they’ve also announced that Manhunt 2 would miss its planned release this fiscal year.

Crysis To Launch in November

Electronic Arts has announced that Crysis is due out Friday, November 16, for PC only. At least that’s all they admitted to as of right now. Get this, the release of Crysis will mark the first commercial launch of a game using CryENGINE2. How will it stack up against Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 when Unreal Tournament 3 is also launched this holiday? We are going to have to wait and see!

Wii Airplane Controller Ready For Lift Off

Wii Airplane Controller Ready For Lift Off

Nintendo may be slow to get a Wii version of Pilotwings off the ground, but those looking to get ready for that inevitability may want to pick up the latest Wiicessory from PEGO, which will turn your humble Wiimote and nunchuck into a makeshift flight stick. Of course, there aren’t exactly a whole lot of games at the moment that’ll let you take full advantage of the setup, but it will only set you back $13, and it would seem to offer some potential for those looking for some new uses for their Wiimote on their PC.

Halo’s Covenant Laser Tag Guns Coming Soon

Halo’s Covenant Laser Tag Guns Coming Soon

If you haven’t gotten hyped enough over the forthcoming third installment of the Halo series, perhaps you might want to get your paws on these illified (and expensive) toy guns from Jasman Toys. Apparently, the Halo 3-modeled firearms will not only look really bad-ass on your mantelpiece at home, but the recoiling, sound-projecting, light-flashing gats will also enable you to play a game of “advanced” laser tag, called “Halo Laser Pursuit.” With the accompanying wearable laser target you can try and reenact your favorite scenes from the games, as the receivers perform somewhat like Halo’s shields, or so says Jasman. Really the only way this game of tag differs from the actual game is that no one dies — and it’s not nearly as much fun. Priced between $79.99 and $119.99, available in October.

Handheld Arcade Games Can Be Found on eBay

Retro Treasures points us to a set of “handheld” arcade games (more like tabletop) up for auction on eBay. Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, and Dracula have been preserved from the dark era of 1981 and are fully operational, supporting two players simultaneously and running off those not-necessarily-rechargeable things called C batteries. The auctioneer has several other tabletop arcade games on the block, including Donkey Kong and Q-Bert. The prices seem a little steep for some, but sometimes nostalgia knows no limits.

DirectX 10 Fails To Attract Gamers

Microsoft’s DirectX 10 page talks about the benefits of DX10 in the future tense: “Many of the newest Windows games will take full advantage of the next-generation graphics technology in Windows Vista called DirectX 10.” Game developers have little incentive right now to produce games for DX10, as you’d only be able to utilize the DX10 features of the games on systems running Vista with a fairly high-end, newer graphics card. Considering the slow adoption rate of Vista, the plethora of Vista graphics driver problems, and the cost to consumers for worthy DX10 rigs, the sweet spot for game developers is still DX9 games on Windows XP.
